West Texas Credit Union was chartered in 1964 for State Employees in the West Texas Area.
In 1975 TSWAG Federal Credit Union was chartered to serve the employees and members of Tri-State Wholesale Associated Grocers. In 1998, after Tri-State closed, TSWAG was forced to change their charter and name. This same year, these two credit unions merged. Both credit unions agreed the stronger of the two was TSWAG Federal Credit Union, therefore the management team, policy, procedures, and account terms of TSWAG, prevailed. Since its charter in 1975 TSWAG Federal Credit Union existed to serve its members with the best service in a courteous and professional manner. TSWAG merged in other credit unions - Dale Employees Federal Credit Union in Aug 1989, Lower Valley Credit Union in Sept 1991, and Sun City Credit Union in Sept 1992. Also, they brought in the following SEGs (Sponsor Employee Group) - El Paso Chaparral Club (El Paso Food Brokers) in 1985, Greater El Paso (garment industry) group in 1990, and the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo reservation (Tigua Tribal) in 1995. After the merger between TSWAG FCU and West Texas CU other mergers occurred, including with Fraternal Credit Union in January 1999 and EPNE Credit Union (El Paso Newspaper Employees) in May 1999. We currently serve over 21,000 members with three lobby locations and two drive thru facilities. From our small beginnings to our current $71 million in assets, we have always followed the credit union philosophy of "people-helping-people". We look forward to serving you and your family.
